Monk Office Wins Sustainable Business Practices Award

Victoria, BC, April 22, 2009 – Monk Office was the proud recipient of the Sustainable Business Practices Award at last night’s Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce Business Awards Gala.

Ross Hill, President of Monk Office, accepted the award on behalf of the company. “We're very proud to receive this recognition from our peers. Our staff have been incredibly passionate about reducing our environmental footprint.”

Hill credits the Monk Office Eco Team for leading the charge. Under the direction of Jeff Lumley, Director of Operations and Facilities, the Monk Office Eco Team was established in 2006 to identify objectives and goals to reduce the company’s impact on the environment. Such eco-initiatives include: water, paper and energy-savings; a full recycling and garbage reduction program; internal and external education on company environmental responsibility policies and initiatives; product recycling and offering eco-friendly products; reducing vehicle emissions by using bio diesel in delivery trucks and Smart cars.

In 2008, Monk Office was awarded ISO14001 certification for environmental standards – an international recognition for environmental accomplishments – and the 2008 Green Program of the Year Award from the Canadian Office Products Association. In 2007, Monk Office’s Victoria Distribution Centre and Administration Office was certified as a “Green Building” by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA).

Both Hill and Lumley agree that good environmental practices have become a habit at Monk Office. “Not a day goes by,” says Lumley, “when I don’t receive an idea from a staff member about an idea on how we can improve our existing systems. With the dedication of our staff, I’m sure we will continue to do great things to make the world a better place for our children.”
